On February 17, 2025, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing the Kaduna South Senatorial District, voiced grave concerns over a recent attack by bandits in Southern Kaduna that led to the abduction of 22 locals, primarily women and children. The senator called for enhanced collaboration between the military and the Kaduna State Government to establish a Forward Operation Base (FOB) in the affected areas.
In a statement, Katung expressed his sorrow regarding the separate attacks that occurred in the Kugauta community of Kusheka and the Kitanda community of Geshere, both located within the Kauru Local Government Area. He condemned the “heinous criminality” against innocent citizens and highlighted the profound pain and hardship inflicted upon the communities of Kauru, Kachia, Zangon Kataf, Kaura, and Sanga.
Katung stated, “This renewed affront on the peace-loving people of Southern Kaduna stands condemned in its entirety. These atrocities against our people must not continue unchecked. And it must stop now.” He underscored the government’s constitutional responsibility to prioritize the security and welfare of its citizens.
To address the escalating violence, the senator pledged to work closely with the Kaduna State Government and the Chief of Defence Staff to set up a FOB in the Kauru local government area and other vulnerable communities. He urged residents to collaborate with security agencies by providing vital information that could lead to the capture of the bandits and their associates.
The senator’s commitment reflects a broader concern for safety in the region, as communities continue to face threats from criminal elements.
