The Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Nenadi Usman, has criticized attempts to intimidate Vice President Kashim Shettima into retracting his remarks made during the public presentation of a book by former Justice Minister Mohammed Adoke. Usman described this intimidation as a disservice to Nigeria.

In a statement issued through her Senior Special Adviser (Media), Ken Asogwa, Usman emphasized that undermining the Vice President’s office is unethical. Shettima had expressed his views on the constitutional limits of presidential power during a state of emergency declaration in 2013, which he linked to recent political events.

Usman praised Shettima for his honesty in acknowledging the constitutional boundaries regarding the removal of elected officials. She highlighted the troubling nature of the pressure on him to retract his statements, questioning who is behind this intimidation.

The Labour Party reiterated the importance of allowing the Vice President to express factual opinions freely, reflecting on the broader implications for human rights and governance in Nigeria. They called for an end to any attempts to undermine the dignity of the Vice President’s office, emphasizing respect for both the individual and the institution he represents.
