The African Democratic Congress (ADC) inaugurated its new national secretariat in Abuja on Monday. Notably, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, both of whom the ADC has sought to attract for full membership, were absent from the event.
The new secretariat, formerly a campaign office for Atiku during his last presidential bid with the Peoples Democratic Party, was officially opened amidst speculation regarding potential shifts in opposition alignment. ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi addressed these rumors, stating that the ADC’s occupancy of the building is an independent decision and does not signify any broader political reconfiguration.
Abdullahi emphasized the party’s commitment to fairness and internal cohesion as they prepare for upcoming congresses in February. He remarked, “At the root of what you call the crises in other parties is injustice and lack of fairness. We are glad that we have kept disagreements and conflicts within our party relatively low.”
Senator David Mark, ADC National Chairman, described the new headquarters as a symbol of the coalition’s ambition to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape. He affirmed that the complex would serve as a center for developing strategies and nurturing future leaders.
