National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has denied allegations by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, that he issued threats against him.

Obi, in a recent tweet, claimed that Morka accused him of “crossing the line” following his New Year message to President Bola Tinubu and warned of consequences. Obi further alleged that the threats extended to his family and associates.

The allegations have sparked reactions, with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing the ruling APC of attempting to suppress opposition voices. The Labour Party also called on Tinubu to investigate the allegations and reprimand Morka.

In a statement on Tuesday, Morka dismissed Obi’s claims, describing them as false and a deliberate misrepresentation of comments he made during an interview on Arise TV’s “THIS WEEK” program on January 4, 2025.

Morka clarified that his statement, which included the remark that Obi “has coming to him, whatever he gets, he needs to manage it,” was taken out of context. He explained that the comment referred exclusively to criticisms of Obi’s statements on economic issues and was not a threat.

The APC spokesman accused Obi of spreading misinformation and argued that every Nigerian, regardless of political affiliation, is entitled to free speech. Morka also criticized Obi’s supporters, alleging that they engage in online bullying and harassment of critics without condemnation from their leader.

“Mr. Obi must think himself to be Nigeria’s sacred cow,” Morka said, adding that Obi has often crossed the line in his public statements.

The APC has yet to announce any further action on the matter.
