During a recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), disclosed that the party is facing significant financial challenges, including over N8.9 billion in election-related debts. These debts have resulted in the garnishment of the party’s accounts due to legal battles initiated by opposition parties contesting the election outcomes of President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates.

Ganduje made these remarks following a national caucus meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where prominent party leaders, including President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, were in attendance. Notably absent were key figures such as former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The APC chairman highlighted that the N8.9 billion debt stems from pre-election legal engagements and various election cases across legislative, governorship, and presidential elections. He appealed to the NEC for support in addressing this financial burden, noting ongoing efforts by the party’s National Legal Adviser to negotiate and mitigate the liabilities.

Ganduje also called for assistance from President Tinubu in acquiring land for a new party secretariat, emphasizing that the current facility is outdated and unsuitable for a ruling party.

In response to the challenges, the NEC passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu, acknowledging his leadership and the economic reforms he has initiated. The President expressed his commitment to furthering the party’s goals and stabilizing the APC amid internal conflicts and external pressures.

The meeting underscored the APC’s determination to reconcile aggrieved members and strengthen its organizational structure as it prepares for future elections. As the party navigates these financial and political hurdles, it aims to uphold its electoral promises and maintain its leadership in Nigerian politics.
