The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong, has formally resigned following Governor Umo Eno’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ememobong made the announcement in a Facebook post, clarifying that his resignation aligns with the governor’s directive that any political appointee unwilling to join the APC should step aside.

In his statement, Ememobong expressed that while he respects the governor’s decision, he cannot support the move to the APC due to his long-standing opposition to the party. He stated, “While I cannot question or fault the Governor’s personal decision, I am unable to join in that sojourn. My decision is borne out of my belief in politics with principles.”

He emphasized that his resignation does not reflect any personal disagreement with Governor Eno, whom he considers a brother and has great respect for. Ememobong expressed gratitude for the opportunities he received during his time in office, thanking both Eno and former Governor Udom Emmanuel for their trust and support.

Reflecting on his career, he mentioned his pride in his contributions to the state and appealed for understanding from those who may be disappointed by his decision. Ememobong concluded his message by reiterating his commitment to public service and his desire to continue contributing positively to society in the future.
