Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured the government and people of Plateau State that the Senate is ready to work with relevant government and security agencies to end the killings in the region. Akpabio gave this assurance on Friday during the funeral of Professor Janet Plang, wife of Senator Diket Plang, in Jos.
Akpabio was responding to Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s plea for urgent federal intervention to address the murder of innocent people by terrorists. He stated that he would deliver the message to President Bola Tinubu and ensure that measures are taken to protect lives and property in Plateau State. He also described the late Professor Janet Plang as a “quintessential woman and mother.”
These assurances come amid ongoing violence in Plateau State, including a recent attack in Riyom Local Government Area where 27 people were killed. The victims were buried in a mass burial. Additionally, 14 villagers and a police officer were killed in separate attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area. Governor Mutfwang has described the killings as “genocide” and not merely farmer-herder clashes.
