A targeted airstrike by the Nigerian military has resulted in the death of Shaudo Alku, a close associate of notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji. The operation, conducted by the Air Component of Operation Fasan Yama, targeted a terrorist hideout near Tunfa Primary School in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Sunday.

The Nigerian Armed Forces confirmed that Alku, described as a key player in cross-border terrorist logistics, was killed along with several fighters and high-ranking commanders. Intelligence reports indicated that he had crossed into Nigeria from Niger Republic for a clandestine strategy meeting.

A military source revealed that surveillance and actionable intelligence led to the successful air assault, which neutralized multiple targets. This operation is viewed as a significant step in dismantling the command structure of terrorist groups in the North West.

The Nigerian Army emphasized its commitment to combating terrorism and restoring peace in troubled regions like Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina States. Ongoing mop-up operations aim to apprehend fleeing terrorists.

Bello Turji, a prominent bandit leader, has been linked to numerous violent acts, including mass abductions and attacks on civilians. Analysts suggest that Alku’s elimination could disrupt Turji’s operations, but warn that ongoing pressure and coordination with neighboring countries are essential.

Residents in Isa expressed relief, noting the military presence and air activity as a sign of government support. This strike is part of a broader military campaign aimed at eradicating terrorism in the region.

The Nigerian military has promised to release further details on the operation soon.
