Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Interim Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Minister of Interior, has declared that the party will defeat President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. He urged party members to set aside personal interests and work towards the party’s success.

Aregbesola, who was previously an ally of President Tinubu, made this statement during a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, Ondo State. He emphasized that unity among ADC members would be crucial for their success.

The ADC has garnered support from prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, who are backing the coalition aimed at challenging Tinubu in the next election. Aregbesola stressed the importance of collaboration and unity within the party to secure victories in upcoming elections.

The interim leadership of the ADC reassured state chairmen of their involvement in the coalition-building process. Meanwhile, Prof. Pat Utomi backed the coalition of opposition parties, criticizing the culture of party defection among politicians and urging members to focus on building a platform that addresses Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.

In response, the Presidency expressed confidence that Atiku and Obi would not pose a threat to Tinubu in the upcoming elections, citing the president’s achievements as a strong foundation for his campaign.
