The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the burning of its Ekiti State Secretariat, labeling it a deliberate act of political terrorism aimed at silencing opposition voices. The attack occurred just hours before the party’s scheduled Reconfiguration and Affirmation Ceremony in Ado-Ekiti.
In a statement by the national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC called for an independent investigation and the prosecution of those responsible. He emphasized that such acts threaten democracy when opposition parties are targeted with impunity.
The arson attack, which took place in the early hours of October 21, was seen as an attempt to sabotage the ADC ahead of the upcoming governorship election. Abdullahi highlighted a troubling pattern of violence against the party, noting previous attacks on ADC members and infrastructure across several states.
He expressed concern over the silence that often follows these incidents, questioning the lack of outrage from those who claim to uphold democracy. The ADC remains determined to continue its efforts despite the violence, asserting that it will not be deterred from organizing and building for the future. The party has called on security agencies to investigate these coordinated acts and ensure justice for the victims.
