The leadership struggle within the Labour Party has intensified as the Julius Abure-led camp has accused the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the National Caretaker Committee (NCC), and the National Transition Committee (NTC) of planning to invade the party’s national secretariat.

Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the national secretary of the Labour Party, claimed that the alleged invasion, reportedly funded by the Abia state government and a prominent party leader, is set to begin today. He warned that the NLC aims to unlawfully break into the party’s offices to steal sensitive documents and vandalize property.

“This action, which threatens the peace of the Federal Capital Territory, reflects irresponsibility and desperation on the part of the NLC,” Ibrahim stated. He emphasized that the Supreme Court’s recent judgment clearly mandates political parties to resolve their internal conflicts using their mechanisms, not through external interference.

Ibrahim pointed out that the judgment does not grant the NLC or any other body authority to take over the Labour Party’s leadership. He reiterated that Barrister Julius Abure, who was validly elected in March 2024, remains the national chairman.

He called on security agencies, including the police and DSS, to prevent any activities that could disrupt public order and to hold accountable those orchestrating the invasion.
