Flight operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja were temporarily halted on Thursday due to a tire burst from a private jet during landing. The incident, which occurred around 2:00 p.m., led to a brief shutdown of the runway, but authorities later confirmed that the aircraft has been cleared and normal operations have resumed.
Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, stated that the disruption was due to the tire burst, assuring that the airport is now back to regular functioning.
This incident follows previous runway closures due to aircraft mishaps, raising concerns about ongoing safety measures at the airport. An official statement regarding the cause of the tire burst and whether an investigation will follow is still awaited.
