Tech billionaire Elon Musk has deleted a controversial post in which he claimed former U.S. President Donald Trump was mentioned in classified documents relating to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The now-removed statement, made on Musk’s X platform on Thursday, marked a dramatic twist in the growing public fallout between Musk and Trump, which erupted after the former stepped down from his White House advisory role just last week.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: (Trump) is in the Epstein files,” Musk wrote in the initial post, accusing the U.S. government of withholding damning information. In a follow-up, he doubled down: “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.” Both posts were gone by Saturday morning.
The remarks came amid increasing tension between Musk and Trump’s administration, with Musk recently slamming a proposed spending bill as an “abomination” — a jab that reportedly infuriated Trump and sparked the public feud.
While Epstein’s connections to prominent figures have long been the subject of speculation, no official documentation has confirmed that Trump appears in any of the sealed records. Trump has acknowledged knowing Epstein but denied visiting his private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where prosecutors said underage girls were trafficked.
Musk’s post was met with disbelief, even among some of Trump’s conspiracy-minded base. Despite their previous closeness, including Trump’s recent praise of Musk as a “terrific guy,” the relationship between the world’s richest man and the world’s most powerful leader appears to have imploded.
For now, both sides seem to be walking back the hostility, but no formal reconciliation has been announced. The White House has denied rumors of a possible meeting.
