Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mohammed Uwais, has passed away at the age of 89. He died in the early hours of Friday, as confirmed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, Dr. Kayode Ajulo.
Uwais served as Chief Justice from 1995 until his retirement in 2006. After retiring, he chaired the Presidential Electoral Reform Committee set up by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, which included notable figures such as Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah and human rights lawyer Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN.
Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced, and tributes from legal, political, and civic leaders are expected in the coming days.
