Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has issued a blunt ultimatum to all members of his cabinet: follow him to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or vacate their positions.
Speaking at a State Executive Council meeting on Thursday, a video of which was released by Channels TV, the governor confirmed his imminent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and warned his appointees to either align with his political move or resign immediately after his official declaration.
“It’s no more news that I’m moving party,” Eno declared. “If you don’t know that by now, I don’t know what else you know.”
He stressed that loyalty to his administration must include political allegiance, stating unequivocally that anyone unwilling to join him in the APC would no longer be part of his government.
“You are free not to come, but you won’t be in my state executive council,” he said, warning that those unwilling to defect should prepare to resign.
Eno cited unresolved internal crises within the PDP and a lack of trust in its electoral processes as reasons for his exit.
“I love the PDP, I want to stay in the PDP, but clearly, I don’t have a roadmap to guarantee a smooth sail in the elections,” he lamented.
He expressed confidence in his popularity in the state, saying, “With the work that all of us have done, even if we contest on a zero party, we will win this election.”
However, he criticized the PDP for internal disorganization that he claimed could lead to electoral losses on technical grounds.
This move is expected to shake up Akwa Ibom’s political landscape, especially as speculations swirl about broader realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
