Senate President Godswill Akpabio has emphasized that lawmakers were not elected to confront the Executive but to collaborate for Nigeria’s progress. In a documentary marking two years of the Bola Tinubu administration, Akpabio stated that the role of legislators is to create laws that benefit the nation, not to act as adversaries.
He noted that the positive relationship between the National Assembly and the Executive has fostered a shared vision for Nigeria’s development. Highlighting legislative priorities, Akpabio revealed plans for a law to promote the purchase of locally assembled vehicles, pointing out the economic losses incurred from relying on imports.
Akpabio urged support for local entrepreneurs, asserting that Nigeria’s large consumer base presents significant opportunities for small businesses. He defended the Senate against claims of being a rubber stamp for the Executive, citing instances where they have rejected presidential nominees.
He assured citizens that the 10th National Assembly will continue to prioritize people-focused legislation aimed at improving living standards and supporting the President’s reform agenda.
