The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a woman, Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi, at the Port Harcourt International Airport while she attempted to smuggle cocaine to Iran. Disguised in a hijab, Obehi concealed drugs in multiple parts of her body, including her private part, stomach, and a handbag with a false bottom. She had swallowed 67 pellets of cocaine and inserted three more internally. The total weight of the seized drugs was 2.523 kilograms.
In a related operation, NDLEA operatives at Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport arrested 22-year-old British national, Campell Kaizra Kofi Johannes Slifer, who arrived from Thailand via Doha. His two suitcases contained 35 parcels of Loud, a potent form of cannabis, weighing 37.60 kilograms. Slifer confessed to having been previously convicted in the UK and recruited in London to courier the drugs.
Further arrests and seizures took place across several states. In Niger State, a fuel truck and three other vehicles carrying 246 bags of skunk cannabis (3,047 kg) were seized, with four suspects apprehended. In Lagos, two suspects were caught with over 109,000 pills of various sedatives. In Kaduna, two young men were arrested with 52.5 kg of skunk. In Kwara, an individual was intercepted with over 45,000 tramadol pills, and in Bauchi, 505 kg of skunk was discovered in a Toyota Tundra jeep.
Also, Kano operatives seized 31 kegs of codeine syrup totaling 775 liters. In Lagos, 1.1 kg of Loud concealed inside a pillow sent from Thailand was intercepted at a courier service.
Beyond enforcement, the NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign continued with educational outreach at schools and religious centers across Nigeria. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended officers nationwide for their dual efforts in cutting both drug supply and demand.
