A former governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Bayelsa State, Engr. Udengs Eradiri, has advised Governor Douye Diri to refrain from involving the entire Ijaw nation in his political disputes with Minister Nyesom Wike.

Eradiri, who previously led the Ijaw Youths Council Worldwide, criticized Diri for portraying the Ijaw people as being in conflict with Wike. He expressed concern that such actions are damaging to the ethnic group’s reputation and relationships with the federal government.

He clarified that he does not seek Wike’s endorsement, recalling his past attempts to gain support from the minister during the last gubernatorial election, which were blocked by individuals close to Wike. Eradiri noted that Wike’s backing was crucial for Diri’s victory, pointing to the political dynamics at play.

In his statement, Eradiri questioned the sincerity of those who now claim to represent Ijaw interests. He recalled Wike’s contributions, including funding for a law school in Yenagoa, and lamented that many people unfairly condemned Wike without understanding the issues involved.

He criticized the Ijaw National Congress for its handling of the situation, arguing that it has contributed to the embarrassment faced by the Ijaw nation. Eradiri emphasized that support for Wike exists within the Ijaw community and that the INC should prioritize unity over political divisions.

Eradiri also pointed to issues of corruption and mismanagement within local governance, stating that those who profess to love the Ijaw nation have failed to deliver development. He highlighted the need for the community to focus on growth and progress rather than ethnic disputes.

He concluded by urging Diri and Wike to resolve their political differences without dragging the Ijaw nation into their conflicts, stating that the real enemies are those who exploit ethnic identities for political gain.
