The Rivers State House of Assembly has announced an indefinite adjournment of its sittings. This decision was made during a plenary session led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule in Port Harcourt on Friday.
The adjournment comes shortly after State Governor Siminalayi Fubara informed the Speaker of his intention to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill for consideration and approval. In a letter dated March 13, the governor stated his plan to present the budget on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or on any other date deemed appropriate within March.
Governor Fubara emphasized that his decision follows a Supreme Court ruling and responds to lawmakers’ requests for him to re-present the budget. He recounted a previous visit to the Assembly Quarters, where he was unfortunately denied entry while attempting to present the budget.
