Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and stop the local government election scheduled for February 22. Speaking in Osogbo, Oyintiloye warned that proceeding with the election could lead to violence amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
He pointed out that there is no leadership vacuum in local councils following the Court of Appeal’s reinstatement of APC chairmen and councillors, arguing that holding the election would be inappropriate. Oyintiloye expressed concerns over recent violence that resulted in six fatalities and numerous injuries, emphasizing that the government should prioritize the safety of residents.
He urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to respect the rule of law and seek redress through the Supreme Court if dissatisfied with the appellate court’s ruling. Oyintiloye commended security agencies for their efforts in restoring peace but reiterated that the election could heighten tensions in the state.
He appealed to President Tinubu to persuade Governor Adeleke to suspend the election to maintain stability and avoid further bloodshed, reaffirming the APC’s commitment to peaceful and lawful conduct in Osun.
