In Niger State, bandits have shot dead two individuals and kidnapped at least ten farmers across Wushishi and Rafi Local Government Areas. Reports indicate that a vigilante and a logger were among the deceased. A security source revealed that one of the vigilantes had been captured by the bandits while armed, raising concerns about his fate.
The attackers are believed to be based in Akare Forest, where they have also rustled cattle. Eyewitnesses reported that the bandits, riding motorcycles, were spotted moving stolen cattle towards Mashegu Local Government Area. In addition to the fatalities, several communities in the Gunna District were attacked, with bandits burning yam barns.
Niger State’s Commissioner for Homeland Security, Brigadier General Bello Abdullahi Mohammed (Rtd), confirmed the incidents and stated that security forces have been deployed to pursue the attackers. The situation remains tense as locals and security operatives continue to confront the ongoing threats posed by banditry in the region.
