The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has begun distributing essential relief materials to victims and families affected by the tragic petrol tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Niger State. The explosion, which occurred on Saturday morning, resulted in the loss of 98 lives, left 69 individuals injured, and destroyed 20 shops.

According to reports, the disaster unfolded when a tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit crashed while attempting to transfer fuel to another tanker. The spilled fuel ignited after coming into contact with a generator used for the transfer, leading to the catastrophic explosion.

NEMA’s Director General, Zubaida Umar, visited the community to oversee the distribution of food, non-food items, and medical supplies. During her visit, she emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to assisting the community in recovering from this devastating incident, in line with directives from President Bola Tinubu.

Umar praised the swift actions of first responders, including firefighters and security personnel, who worked diligently to mitigate the damage and save lives. She also highlighted the importance of communities prioritizing disaster preparedness to safeguard lives and property.

NEMA assured the community that comprehensive recovery efforts would be coordinated to support those affected by this tragedy.
