Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that all his children supported Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, during the 2023 presidential election.
Wike disclosed this on Monday during an interview on TVC News, explaining that their support for Obi was influenced by the controversy surrounding the All Progressives Congress’ Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket at the time.
He said the issue generated concerns among some Nigerians over the religious composition of the APC ticket and influenced the choices of voters during the election.
“In 2023, there was a problem with the Muslim-Muslim ticket. There was this campaign about Christianity,” Wike said.
“All my children supported Peter Obi. But now, they are saying that they never knew this man, Peter Obi, was like this.”
The former Rivers State governor said the situation had since changed, claiming that President Bola Tinubu’s administration had addressed the concerns surrounding the same-faith ticket.
“There are a lot of people who were carried away, but that is no longer there now. Tinubu has been able to kill the Muslim-Muslim ticket problem,” he said.
Wike further criticised Obi and insisted that the former Anambra State governor, who is now the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, would not win the 2027 presidential election.
