A motorist, Abubakar Halilu, has been sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment for dangerous driving, assaulting a Federal Road Safety Corps marshal and other traffic offences in Abuja.
Halilu was convicted by the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, after he was prosecuted by the FRSC over multiple offences involving road safety regulations.
The charges included dangerous driving, driving licence violation, overloading, seatbelt violation, resisting arrest and assaulting an FRSC marshal on duty.
The FRSC said Halilu was arrested around 11am on Monday, September 14, 2026, during a mobile court operation by its Life Camp Unit Command. He was reportedly driving a Mitsubishi vehicle when he was stopped for traffic violations and allegedly assaulted a marshal while resisting arrest.
Following his arraignment, Magistrate Theresa found Halilu guilty and sentenced him to three weeks at the Suleja Correctional Centre, with an option of a ₦30,000 fine.
The FRSC said the conviction underscored the need for motorists to comply with traffic regulations and respect personnel carrying out lawful enforcement duties.
The Corps warned motorists against assaulting or obstructing its personnel, stressing that dangerous driving and other traffic violations could put the lives of motorists and other road users at risk.
