Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has indicated his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.
Kalu disclosed that a formal announcement of his ambition would be made in Umuahia, which he described as the constitutionally recognised seat of political authority in the state.
Speaking during an interaction with supporters, the lawmaker acknowledged calls from various communities urging him to run for governor. He noted that similar appeals had been made in Bende, Obingwa, and other parts of the state.
According to him, rather than responding to the requests on a local government basis, he intends to address the matter collectively at the state capital.
He stated that issues concerning the governorship and leadership of the state must be addressed in Umuahia, being the proper constitutional location for such declarations.
Kalu added that an invitation would soon be extended to stakeholders and supporters across the state to gather in Umuahia, where he would give a definitive response regarding his governorship ambition.
