A new platform, the South-East Former Governors Forum, was unveiled on Tuesday in Enugu, bringing together past governors and senior political leaders from the region to support development and advise on national matters.

The event saw the participation of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, alongside former governors including Sullivan Chime (Enugu), Martin Elechi (Ebonyi), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Chris Ngige (Anambra).

Speaking after the forum’s first meeting, Umahi explained that the body is designed to advise current South-East governors on key developmental and policy issues. Membership is open to all former governors from the region, regardless of political affiliation.

“You may have been wondering what was going on. Today marks the birth of a forum of former South-East governors. The body will work hand-in-hand with serving governors to advise on zonal and national matters,” Umahi said.

The forum also commended the work of current governors in advancing regional development and praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for infrastructural projects in the South-East and other parts of Nigeria. Umahi highlighted the support provided by the federal government to the region’s leadership.

Members of the forum are expected to expand in the coming weeks, strengthening collaboration with serving governors to promote strategic initiatives and regional unity. The platform also included a courtesy visit to Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
