Alleged Coup: Families of Detained Officers Protest at National Assembly

Wives and children of military officers detained over an alleged coup plot staged a peaceful protest at the National Assembly in Abuja, demanding their release or immediate trial.

The protesters, many of them visibly emotional, carried placards with messages calling for justice and an end to prolonged detention without trial. Some children also appealed directly to authorities, saying they had not seen their fathers for several months.

Several family members accused the government of holding the officers without access to lawyers or relatives, despite claims that investigations had been concluded. They called for an open court process where the आरोप against the officers can be made public and properly addressed.

The protest follows earlier appeals to Bola Tinubu and Oluremi Tinubu, urging intervention to ensure the detained officers are either released or formally charged in court.

The officers were arrested in October 2025 over allegations of plotting a coup. Authorities later said investigations pointed to a network of personnel accused of planning actions targeting key government institutions.

Families, however, insist the continued detention without trial is unjust and are calling for due process to be followed.
