Staff and students of Kogi State Polytechnic are in mourning after a lecturer, Anslem Ojodomo, died while teaching.
Ojodomo, a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration, reportedly collapsed during a lecture. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Rector, Salihu Avidime, and signed by the Acting Public Relations Coordinator, John Onimisi.
Avidime said the news came as a shock. He noted that he had met Ojodomo just hours earlier and that the lecturer appeared to be in good condition.
He described the late lecturer as a committed academic who showed humility, professionalism, and dedication to his work. He added that Ojodomo contributed significantly to the institution, including serving as Deputy Dean of Students’ Services.
The rector said the institution has lost a dependable colleague who stood for scholarship, service, and character.
The death comes about a month after another lecturer, Barnabas Akuba, died shortly after completing his PhD programme.
Ojodomo joined the polytechnic in 2021. He held Master’s degrees from Prince Abubakar Audu University and had recently defended his PhD proposal. He also served on several committees within the school.
The institution extended condolences to his family and the people of Igalamela/Odolu, praying for the repose of his soul.
