Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), successfully repelled coordinated assaults by suspected ISWAP fighters on Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Borno State, recovering significant weaponry and combat gear.
The attacks targeted FOB Mayanti, Gajigana, and Gajiram during the late hours of February 28 and early morning of March 1, 2026. Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for OPHK, detailed the incidents in a Sunday statement, highlighting the increasing desperation among terrorist groups facing intensified military actions.
Key Incidents:
- At FOB Mayanti, a heavy assault by militants was met with fierce resistance from the troops, who maintained control despite overwhelming enemy fire. The engagement resulted in five enemy fatalities and the recovery of arms, including three PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns and several AK-47 rifles.
- In a subsequent attack on FOB Gajiram, troops, supported by air assets, thwarted an armed incursion, resulting in the recovery of additional arms, including an armed drone and multiple AK-47 rifles.
The military reported one officer was killed in the engagements. However, the operations led to the recovery of numerous weapons, indicating significant enemy casualties and a degradation of ISWAP’s combat capabilities.
All affected locations are reportedly under firm military control, and the operations underscore the military’s commitment to advancing security and stability in the region against ongoing terrorist threats.
