President Bola Tinubu has dismissed allegations that he is responsible for weakening opposition parties in the country, insisting that he neither forced nor pressured any politician to defect.
Speaking during an interfaith iftar with senators at the Presidential Villa, the president said those who chose to leave their former parties did so of their own free will.
Tinubu maintained that politicians who joined the ruling party made personal decisions based on prevailing political realities, rejecting claims that his administration orchestrated the defections.
He noted that in a democratic setting, individuals have the right to associate with any political platform of their choice and should not be blamed for exercising that freedom.
The president also called for unity and cooperation among political leaders, stressing that democracy thrives on inclusiveness and constructive engagement rather than hostility.
