President Bola Tinubu has appointed Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police, following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.
The appointment, announced on February 24, 2026, places Disu in the top police position just weeks before his scheduled retirement. Under existing police regulations, officers are required to retire upon attaining 60 years of age or completing 35 years of service, whichever comes first.
Disu was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police in March 2025, less than a year before his elevation to the office of Inspector-General.
His rapid rise within the police hierarchy has attracted attention, particularly in light of the short period remaining before he is due to retire from service.
