Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has said that making electronic transmission of election results mandatory will not, by itself, guarantee credible elections in Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Sani noted that while technology can improve transparency, it cannot replace political will and institutional integrity. He argued that those determined to manipulate the process will always find loopholes, regardless of the system in place.
Sani pointed to practices such as voter inducement as proof that electoral malpractice is rooted more in human behaviour than in the mechanics of result collation.

Although he expressed support for electronic transmission, he stressed that the law must allow manual alternatives in cases of technical failure, warning that insisting on a rigid system could create avoidable challenges.

He added that Nigeria should adopt what is practical, noting that even technologically advanced countries still face difficulties with seamless nationwide electronic result transmission.
