The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will support only candidates who back President Bola Tinubu in the forthcoming FCT Area Council elections scheduled for February 21. He said party affiliation would not matter, provided the candidate aligns with the President.

Wike made the remarks in Abuja during the 60th birthday celebration of Senator Sandy Onor, stating that he owed no apology for his political position. According to him, it is his responsibility to ensure that candidates who support Tinubu emerge victorious in the council polls.

He further emphasized that he would work against any aspirant who does not align with the President’s political direction. Wike maintained that his stance was rooted in loyalty and conviction, insisting that he would not retract his position under pressure.

Speaking about the celebrant, Wike described Onor as a dependable ally and loyal friend, praising his character and long-standing relationship with him. He said true friendship is proven in difficult times and expressed confidence in Onor’s steadfastness.

Other dignitaries at the event commended Onor’s contributions to academia and politics, noting his career trajectory from the University of Calabar to the Nigerian Senate. Speakers highlighted his leadership qualities, scholarship, and public service record.

In his response, Onor expressed gratitude to family, friends, and associates for their support. Reflecting on his journey at 60, he underscored the importance of excellence, character, and faith, stating that hard work and divine guidance have shaped his path.
