South African singer Tyla has won the Best African Music Performance award at the 2026 Grammy Awards, defeating Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr in the highly competitive category.

Tyla clinched the award with her song Push 2 Start, edging out Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, as well as Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.

The Best African Music Performance category, introduced to spotlight African sounds on the global stage, once again featured strong Nigerian representation, with three Nigerian artistes making the final shortlist.

This latest win makes Tyla a two-time Grammy winner in the category since its introduction in 2024, when she first claimed the award with her global hit Water, becoming the inaugural recipient.

The 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony, held in the United States, brought together top artistes from around the world and continued to showcase the growing influence of African music on the international scene.
