A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Convention held in the city on November 15, 2025, declaring the exercise invalid and of no legal effect.
In a ruling delivered on Thursday, the court barred members of the National Working Committee led by Tanimu Turaki from parading themselves as national officers of the party, effectively stripping them of authority to act on behalf of the PDP.
The court further held that the Caretaker Committee headed by Mohammed Abdulrahman, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu as secretary, remains the only recognised leadership of the party at the national level pending the conduct of a fresh and valid National Convention.
The judge ruled that the Ibadan convention was conducted in breach of the PDP constitution and subsisting court orders, noting that the processes leading to the convention failed to comply with internal party regulations and due process.
The judgment represents a major turn in the prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP, which has been marked by parallel claims to authority, deep internal divisions and a series of legal battles.
The court ordered the party to urgently commence steps to organise a properly constituted National Convention in line with its constitution, warning that any actions taken by the disbanded NWC could further destabilise the party.
