The Federal Government has emphasized the importance of networking, coordination, and effective communication among information officers to successfully propagate President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. This call to action was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a stakeholders’ meeting for Resident Information Officers (RIOs) in Abuja.

Idris highlighted that trust and clarity are essential for effective government communication. He urged the officers to build public trust through honesty in their communications and to foster good relationships with political appointees for improved coordination.

He recounted an experience handling a sensitive situation, urging RIOs to seek accurate information rather than rush to release statements. Former Commissioner for Information in Adamawa State, Dr. Ahmed Sajoh, reinforced the need for continuous training and the importance of character in building trust between the government and the public.

Prof. Okey Okechukwu, Executive Director of Development SPECS Academy, noted the importance of experience sharing in enhancing communication efforts, while Tunde Rahman, Special Senior Assistant to the President on Media, underscored the necessity for information officers to be familiar with their agencies’ mandates.

The meeting included key figures from the Department of Information and various media organizations, emphasizing the collective responsibility of information officers in countering misinformation and promoting government initiatives.
