Veteran journalist and publisher Chief Dele Momodu has issued a cautionary statement to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), advising the party to avoid actions that could lead to internal discord. He emphasized that a failure to enforce discipline could result in turbulence reminiscent of what the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) experienced. In his piece titled “My Candid Advice to ADC: Avoid Another Wike Scenario,” Momodu reflected on the formation of the ADC as a coalition aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Momodu recalled his attendance at a significant meeting of opposition leaders that adopted the ADC as an inclusive platform for displacing the APC. He expressed optimism about the party, especially with the appointment of former Senate President David Mark as chairman, believing his military background would ensure strong leadership and order within the party.

However, he has become increasingly concerned about recent developments that indicate a drift from the ADC’s founding principles. There appears to be rising aggression and intolerance among factions within the party, which he warned could derail the coalition. He questioned the rationale behind any group within the ADC trying to unilaterally select the party’s presidential candidate without a transparent, democratic process.

Drawing strong parallels with the PDP’s past, Momodu cautioned that the ADC risks repeating historical mistakes if it allows indiscipline to fester. He referenced former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s influence over the PDP, stating that such unchecked behavior could threaten the ADC’s unity and effectiveness.

To prevent a similar outcome, he urged the ADC leadership to act decisively and foster an environment of love, cooperation, and mutual respect, rather than succumbing to internal conflicts. Momodu concluded that the ADC should embody solidarity instead of chaos, underscoring the growing public interest in the party as a potential rallying point for opposition forces leading up to future elections.
