The All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections. The endorsement followed a stakeholders’ meeting held in Yenagoa, where party leaders and members agreed to rally behind the president’s re-election bid.
The decision was formally adopted through a motion moved and seconded by senior party figures, with key stakeholders from across the state in attendance. The meeting marked the first expanded gathering of the party since Governor Douye Diri assumed leadership of the Bayelsa APC, signalling a new phase of consolidation within the party.
Addressing members, Diri said the party had resolved to operate as one united family with a shared objective of securing Tinubu’s return to office. He urged members to embrace unity, humility and forgiveness, warning that internal divisions and bitterness would undermine peace and development.
The governor also advised party members with political ambitions to temporarily suspend them, stressing the need for consultation, discipline and strict adherence to party rules as preparations for the next election cycle begin. He emphasized that the immediate priority was the success of the president’s re-election bid.
Other party leaders at the meeting echoed calls for unity, describing the Bayelsa APC as newly strengthened and focused on winning future elections. They praised Diri’s inclusive leadership style, noting that it had helped to reconcile previously divided party structures.
Party officials further stated that efforts were underway to mobilise members for electronic registration, aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots base. They expressed confidence that the renewed unity within the Bayelsa APC would translate into electoral success in 2027.
