Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has cautioned Senator Ajibola Basiru against interfering in Rivers State politics, following Basiru’s public support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Wike issued this warning while addressing supporters in Oyigbo Local Government Area, declaring Rivers State off-limits to political actors he considers outsiders.
Wike warned against taking the support of Rivers leaders for President Bola Tinubu for granted. He stated that Rivers is a political “no-go area” and that anyone who attempts to interfere should be prepared for the consequences. He also accused unnamed political figures of making “unnecessary noise” about Rivers politics and warned them to focus on their own affairs.
Basiru had earlier made comments backing Governor Fubara amid the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State. Wike’s comments came in response to Basiru’s criticism of Victor Giadom, the APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), for allegedly disrespecting Governor Fubara. Wike also warned against meddling in Rivers politics because of the alleged ₦600 billion in the state treasury.
