The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a statement “congratulating” Peter Obi on his formal defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), though the tone of the message makes it clear the gesture is sarcastic.
In a statement signed by APC spokesman Seye Oladejo, the party said Obi’s move was not a genuine political evolution but a public activation of what it called a “coalition forged in grievance, sustained by falsehood, and animated by an unhealthy appetite for national dislocation.”
“Mr. Peter Obi has eventually yielded to the prolonged instructions to join ADC. Either way, the pretense of independence has now been formally abandoned,” the statement read, highlighting the party’s view that Obi’s defection is driven by convenience rather than principle.
The Lagos APC further described the ADC as a “political scrapyard where rejected ambitions, electoral failures, and serial aspirants converge,” arguing that the defection reflects “power without responsibility” rather than ideology.
The party also pointed out that the choice of venue for Obi’s announcement was deliberate, signaling calculated political messaging rather than spontaneous political expression.
