The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed comments by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) would closely monitor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Sunday, the APC’s Public Relations Officer in Kano, Ahmad Aruwa, described the remarks as unnecessary and confusing, insisting that the former Kano governor no longer plays a significant role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Aruwa said Kwankwaso was neither the legitimate leader nor a candidate of the NNPP, questioning his authority to comment on INEC’s activities.
He added that the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were satisfied with INEC’s conduct so far, stressing that the party had concluded arrangements to secure victory in Kano State.
According to him, the APC’s confidence in the electoral body was reinforced by past court decisions, including losses suffered by the party, which he said demonstrated INEC’s transparency.
Kwankwaso had made the comments at the NNPP national convention in Abuja, where he praised INEC’s role in democracy while pledging that his party would monitor the commission ahead of the 2027 polls.
