Police Arrest Man for Shooting Officers in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Nwabali for allegedly shooting police officers at a checkpoint in Ipele, Owo Local Government Area. Nwabali was part of a group of three men involved in the attack, which resulted in injuries to two police officers and a female bystander.

According to a statement released on December 20, the incident occurred on December 17 at approximately 8:00 PM. The Safer Highway Patrol team was attacked by the three armed men on a motorcycle while performing their lawful duties. The assailants opened fire on the officers, who responded to repel the attack.

The injured individuals, including the police officers and the female bystander named Taiwo, were promptly taken to the hospital and are currently receiving medical care.

During the operation, Nwabali was arrested, and the motorcycle used by the attackers was recovered. He is now in custody and has provided information that is assisting police in tracking down the other suspects, who remain at large. Nwabali is expected to be charged in court once investigations are completed.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abayomi Jimoh, remarked that this incident highlights the effectiveness of ongoing policing reforms and enhanced strategies initiated by Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun. The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebowale Lawal, assured residents that the police are committed to combating criminal activities and bringing all perpetrators to justice.
