MRS and other partners of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery are preparing to sell petrol at N739 per litre, effective Tuesday, following a recent reduction in the refinery’s gantry price from N828 to N699 per litre.
At a press briefing at the Lekki refinery, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, expressed his frustration that despite the lower gantry prices, some filling stations continue to sell petrol at inflated rates, undermining efforts to reduce costs. He stated that MRS would lead the way in enforcing the new price.
Dangote accused some officials of colluding with marketers to keep prices high, emphasizing that he would actively work to enforce the new pricing structure. “Within a week to 10 days, we want to ensure that petrol is sold nationwide for no more than N740,” he declared.
He explained that the transportation cost from the refinery is only about N15 per litre, questioning why retail prices could rise as high as N900 per litre. He also criticized the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for issuing excessive import licenses, which he claims harms local investments.
Dangote assured that starting Tuesday, MRS stations would sell petrol at N739 per litre, and urged customers to take advantage of the revised pricing. When contacted for a comment, NMDPRA spokesman George Ene-Ita provided no immediate response.
