The Imo State Police Command has refuted a video circulating on social media claiming a mass kidnapping occurred in the state. According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, investigations revealed that the video originated from an incident earlier in the year and has been recirculated to create unnecessary panic. Okoye assured that concerted efforts were made at the time to ensure the safe release of the victims.
The video alleged that 14 passengers were kidnapped on December 1, 2025, in Ngor Okpala while traveling from Owerri to Aba. State Police Commissioner Aboki Danjuma has urged the public to disregard the misleading video and cautioned against sharing unverified information that could generate fear and tension.
Okoye added that the Commissioner of Police has deployed adequate security along the affected route, in collaboration with other security agencies and local outfits, to ensure commuter safety, especially during the holiday season. Residents are advised to remain calm, stay vigilant, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency contact line.
