Thirty-eight members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke-Isegun, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom five days after they were abducted by armed attackers during a Thanksgiving service.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed their release in a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaiye. The statement credited the development to coordinated efforts led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and multiple federal security agencies, though specifics of the rescue operation were not disclosed.
According to the statement, President Tinubu personally intervened in the matter, cancelled a scheduled trip to the G20 Meeting in South Africa, and ordered heightened security deployments in Kwara and Kebbi States in response to the incidents.
The state government also acknowledged the involvement of the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force, which recently deployed four tactical teams to the state on the President’s directive.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed appreciation to the security agencies, community leaders, and residents for their support since the attack. The statement did not reveal whether any ransom was paid or provide details on the exact conditions under which the abducted worshippers were freed.
