The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated investigations into two individuals suspected of oil theft in Uyo. The suspects were apprehended for allegedly dealing in petroleum products without the required licenses.
A Joint Task Force team comprising officers of the 2-Brigade Nigerian Army arrested the suspects in Ikot Ekpene. The suspects were reportedly loading suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil from an underground dump into a truck.
Authorities found an estimated 19,400 litres of the suspected illegally refined product stored in the underground tank. The suspects and exhibits were handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution. The EFCC has assured the army of a thorough investigation and diligent prosecution of the suspects.
