The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing deeper internal turmoil as new divisions have surfaced within its leadership. A faction, reportedly backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced the suspension of the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, along with five other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
Speaking to reporters in Abuja on behalf of the factional NWC, the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, declared Mohammed Abdulrahman, the party’s National Vice Chairman (North Central), as the Acting National Chairman.
Anyanwu stated that the decision to suspend Damagum was due to “incompetence, financial misconduct, and disregard for court judgment.” He also announced the suspension of the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, for issuing statements without the party’s approval, as well as the Deputy National Vice Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja.
Additionally, the National Financial Secretary, Daniel Woyenguikoro, was suspended for alleged financial misconduct, along with the National Youth Leader, Sulaiman Kadade, and the Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo. Anyanwu indicated that all suspended members would be referred to the Disciplinary Committee to determine whether they should be expelled from the party.
Prior to this announcement, the NWC under Damagum’s leadership had declared the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and two other members.
