The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the suspension of the screening of aspirants for its 2025 Elective National Convention, originally scheduled for October 28, due to unforeseen circumstances. This decision, made less than a month before the highly anticipated convention, has raised concerns among party members and observers regarding potential internal challenges and their effect on the party’s preparations.
In a statement signed by Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) and Governor of Adamawa State, the committee indicated that a new date for the screening would be communicated soon.
“The NCOC of our great party has put on hold the screening of aspirants due to unforeseen circumstances,” the statement read. The committee expressed regret over the postponement and appealed for understanding among aspirants and party members while efforts are made to resolve the issues causing the delay.
Fintiri reassured the party that the NCOC is committed to ensuring a transparent and credible process leading to the convention, scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The convention is expected to attract prominent party leaders, governors, and key stakeholders as the PDP prepares to reorganize its national leadership ahead of the upcoming general elections.
