Augustine Ehiemere, the national vice chairman (South East) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has confirmed the suspension of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe from the party. This confirmation came during a telephone conversation with LEADERSHIP in Umuahia, following last week’s report of Abaribe’s suspension.
Ehiemere stated that Abaribe was suspended for violating the party’s constitution, primarily due to his dual membership as both a card-carrying member of APGA and the leader of the African Democratic Party (ADC) in Abia State. He noted that the breach was highlighted by the party’s secretary, Peter Nduka, during a live radio program.
According to Ehiemere, the state chairman, Sunday Onukwuiri, and the State Working Committee had invited Abaribe to address the allegations, but he did not respond to the invitation. They also sent him a letter giving him a 24-hour ultimatum to defend himself, which he failed to honor. Following the expiration of this ultimatum last Thursday, a state executive council meeting was held, resulting in Abaribe’s suspension.
When asked about Abaribe’s reaction to the suspension, Ehiemere remarked, “No, he has not responded anywhere.”
