The Edo State House of Assembly has confirmed eight nominees as Commissioners, following a request from Governor Monday Okpebholo. The confirmation occurred on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, after the House reviewed a report from its Committee on Rules, Business and Government House.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, stated that all nominees were competent, experienced indigenes qualified for the positions. He urged them to collaborate proactively with the governor to advance the state’s progress.
The confirmed Commissioners-designate include Barr. Nosa Adams, Yakubu Oshiorenua, Felix Akhabue, Prof. Omorodion Ignatius, Ohimai Ehijimetor, Eugenia Abdallah, Godwin Afekokhe Eshieshi, and Prince Kassim Afegbua.
However, Speaker Agbebaku voiced concerns regarding gender imbalance, noting that only one of the eight nominees was female. He indicated plans to discuss the need for greater female representation with the Governor.
With these confirmations, the total number of Governor Okpebholo’s commissioners since assuming office in November 2024 rises to seventeen.
Governor Okpebholo has been in office since November 12, 2024, and previously served as a Senator for Edo Central. Blessing Agbebaku is the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, representing Owan West Constituency.
